The Best Advice Around About Credit Cards

Do you use a credit card? Do you know how much credit you have total? Do you know how much additional credit you have available to you? If you are unable to answer these second two questions, then you are probably not using credit responsibly, and it is time to learn more!

Try your best to stay within 30 percent of the credit limit that is set on your card. Part of your credit score is made up of assessing the amount of debt that you have. By staying far under your limit, you will help your rating and make sure it does not start to dip.

If you have poor credit and want to repair it, consider a pre-paid credit card. This type of credit card can usually be found at your local bank. You can only use the money that you have loaded onto the card, but it is used as a real credit card, with payments and statements. By making regular payments, you will be repairing your credit and raising your credit score.

If you need to use credit cards, it is best to use one credit card with a larger balance, than 2, or 3 with lower balances. The more credit cards you own, the lower your credit score will be. Use one card, and pay the payments on time to keep your credit score healthy!

Never pay a credit card late. All credit balances have a specific due date; if you don’t pay attention to it, you will likely be charged high fees. Additionally, most companies will increase the interest rate on your credit card, which means an increase in the cost of every purchase you put on that card thereafter.

Check your credit score often if you wish to get a good card. Credit card companies always use credit scores to determine what kinds of cards they will offer consumers. Those cards with the lowest of rates and the opportunity to earn cash back are given only to those with first class credit scores.

When signing a credit receipt at a store or restaurant, don’t leave anything blank. Always cross out the tipping line, so an amount that you did not authorize is not added in later. To ensure that no one has been adding any false amounts, stay on top of your monthly statements, making sure they match your receipts.

If you are having a problem getting a credit card, consider a secured account. A secured credit card will require you to open a savings account before a card is issued. If you ever default on a payment, the money from that account will be used to pay off the card and any late fees. This is a good way to begin establishing credit, so that you have opportunities to get better cards in the future.

Don’t open too many credit card accounts. A single person only needs two or three in his or her name, in order to get a good credit established. More credit cards than this, could actually do more damage than good to your score. Also, having multiple accounts is harder to keep track of and harder to remember to pay on time.

If you are not happy with your interest rate, ask your bank to change it. If the bank refuses after you talk with their retention team, you should search for better rates. After you find one, change to the credit card that will service your needs better.

Now, you should be better prepared to use a consumer credit card in the proper way. When used correctly, credit cards can be a great way to simplify your life, however, when you are irresponsible with credit cards, then they can quickly get out of hand and make your life very complicated.
